You guessed it right, OnePlus has officially confirmed that the new Oneplus 2 will have a solid 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM. This was last spec release by Oneplus. No a lot more surprise announcements till its actual launch. The 4GB RAM was expected from Oneplus 2 because we have already covered its benchmarks on DroidViews. You might wonder why not other OEMs planned 4GB RAM earlier and why it is not common in lots of flagships?
Because 32 bit processor can only extract 3GB of RAM even if we power it with 4GB the extra is left over and not used. OnePlus 2 which is already powered with Snapdragon 810 64 bit SoC has the ability to juice in a lot more RAM. I have to say Oneplus did the ideal thing choosing 4GB of RAM, using every corner of SoC efficiency.
For Oneplus following diehard fans it was a no big surprise today. we all know what is 4GB RAM but what is this LPDDR4 thing?
LPDDR4
Your RAM is what handles your device’s short-term actions, like apps that are currently running or those in the background. It contributes to performance in lot of ways. A good RAM will make multitasking a lot much easier and the user experience is much better with a lot more accessing memory. LPDDR RAM stands for low power double data rate random access memory.
The LPDDR4 specification aims to double data rates (up to 3200 Mb/s) compared to LPDDR3 RAM. The LPDD4 was redesigned for a two-channel die with 16 bits per channel, for a total of 32 bits total. The total maximum bandwidth was 17 GB/s but the dual channel configuration can be set up to reach higher speeds. In OnePlus 2 it’s done and the official report promises 32GB/s of bandwidth.
It uses optimal support for power-saving low frequency mode that brings clock speeds down when performing those everyday and needed tasks. looks like OnePlus managed their Q2 time in clocking processor and RAM. The LPDDR4 magic can be seen when using the features such as slow-motion video, face recognition, and low-latency gaming–features. These tasks demand higher bandwidth which is used by Oneplus 2. On paper it’s easy to say Oneplus 2 will beat the timing when compared to other flagships but for users aspect matters.
LPDDR4 operates at 1.1 V which makes it energy saver. though its predecessors had 1.2 V consumption and it may not look a great achievement but when we come to statistics 1.1 V is way better than 1.2 V. 4GB LPDD4 is a good go by OnePlus. Let’s see what incredible things a smartphone with Snapdragon 810 chipset along with quick silver 4GB LPDDR4 can do. What do you think about LPDDR4 RAM? Do let us know in the comments below.
